Birds of Rhode Island

According to The Rhode Island Avian Records Committee, over 450 birds live in the New England state of Rhode Island. Over 120 species are counted as accidental visitors or vagrants, and 6 are introduced. Additionally, there are two extinct birds, namely the passenger pigeon and the great auk.

The Rhode Island Red is a domestic American chicken breed designated as Rhode Island’s official state bird since 1954.
