Black stands for mystery, power, and sophistication, while white is about innocence and purity. A blend of the two creates an absolutely stunning combination. Looking at the wildlife around, you will find umpteen animals and birds with black and white bodies. Some, like the zebras, have black and white stripes running through their body in a wavy pattern. A few, such as the giant panda, have uniformly distributed markings – black on their hind legs, forelegs, eye patches, ears, and shoulders; white on the rest of their body.
The black and white color on the animal’s body also helps them adapt to its surroundings in various ways. In the zebra, it functions as a form of camouflage known as disruptive coloration. Its body color blends with the color of its habitat, making it difficult for potential predators to spot it.
The giant panda, another well-known black and white animal, manages to hide in the snow due to its white color. Whereas the black patches on their hind legs, forelegs, and shoulders help them blend into a shaded background.
Besides camouflaging, the black-and-white pattern also helps in thermoregulation. Black keeps the body warm by absorbing heat, and white cools down the body by reflecting heat.
