Pigmentation plays a significant role in influencing body color. However, in most animals, the blue color isn’t a result of the pigment. Instead, the molecular structure and ability to reflect light results in the blue body. E.g., the blue jay looks blue since its feather has tiny light-scattering beads that reflect nothing else but blue. The bird would entirely or partially lose its blue when the feathers get destroyed. Of the few species producing a blue pigment, the obrina olivewing butterfly is one.
