Lizards in Massachusetts

Only two species of lizards have ever been found in Massachusetts – the common five-lined skink and the Italian wall lizard. The common five-lined skink was once found in the counties of Bristol and Berkshire but has become extirpated, i.e., the species is no longer available in the wild. On the other hand, Italian wall lizards were suddenly spotted in Suffolk County with no explanation as to how they got there. Now a healthy population of these lizards lives in the area.
