Red Birds in Texas

Texas is home to a diverse avian population; among them are several striking red bird species. Some vibrant feathered residents visit the Lone Star State in the winter, while others are found here throughout the year. The common red birds of Texas include robins, tanagers, woodpeckers, finches, cardinals, and flycatchers.

The common redpoll is a small-breasted bird of the state, while the American robin is a large gray-brown songbird with a red chest. The painted bunting is attractive with its red chest, rump, green back, and blue head. You are more likely to spot it in central Texas. East Texas is where the northern cardinal, red-headed and pileated woodpeckers occur. Vermillion and scarlet flycatchers are red birds that are more common in south Texas and are found throughout the year. The former has brownish wings and tails.
