Birds of Finland

There are close to 500 species of avian species that make Finland their home. The country is known for its diverse avifauna, with various birds living in its forests, wetlands, and coastal areas.

The Whooper Swan is Finland’s national bird. This bird is even represented in the nation’s currency as two flying Whooper swans are engraved on one side of the Finnish one-euro coin.

Some of the best sites in Finland to see birds include Oulu region and Liminka Bay, Kuusamo and Oulanka National Park, and Nuuksio National Park.
