Birds of Indonesia

Indonesia is a megadiverse nation, with over 1800 birds calling it their home. It is also home to the most extensive endemic avifauna, nearly 800 birds. While these avian species seemingly thrive here, as over 45% of the country is covered with forests due to rapid industrialization and illegal trading in wild animal body parts, several species are at risk.

The national bird of Indonesia is the Javan hawk-eagle. Other notable endemic species include the Flores hawk-eagle, the Javan Kingfisher, and the Sumatran Trogon.
