Birds of Laos

There are close to 800 avian species living in Laos. Despite being landlocked, the country has a wide diversity of habitats, including mountains, highlands, and rivers. This allows the birds living there to thrive.

The national bird of Laos is the Siamese Fireback. Other notable species include the Asian Openbill, the Crested Serpent Eagle, and the Silver Pheasant.

Some of the best birding sites in Laos include Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area, Nam Kading National Protected Area, and Xe Pian National Protected Area. One of the best times to go birdwatching in Laos is between November and February when migratory birds visit the country.
